Also known as the Gilchrist House, A. C. Freeman House entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

Freeman purchased the land in 1903 from Albert Gilchrist, who later became Governor of the state.

It was built in 1903 in a beautiful Queen Anne style of architecture. The house is an excellent example of vernacular architecture and is one of the few remaining examples of this type of architecture in the state.

The house was moved two blocks in 1985 before restoration began, but the move was not deemed to have disturbed historical integrity. It was moved again in 2005 to city property following Hurricane Charley.

The owner, Augustus C. Freeman, was a businessman and politician. The house is currently owned by the City of Punta Gorda and is open to the public for tours.
